Orcas Island is the gem of the San Juan Islands in the Pacific Northwest. This horse-shoe-shaped island is about 2.5 hours from Seattle and a ferry ride from Anacortes Washington. The 57-mile island is full of curvy roads, lush green hills, and water views. My husband and I spent a few days on this gorgeous island and LOVED every moment. November is the start of the “off-season”, but do not let that deter you from thinking about a getaway! So many of you have asked for all the details, and I am so excited to share! Where to Stay
Outlook Inn – Situated on the waterfront in the charming town of Eastsound, you will instantly feel the serenity of island life. The rooms are spacious and serene with water views…you will instantly feel yourself relaxed when stepping in the door.
Where to Eat
New Leaf Cafe -Opening for the new season Feb 20244. Stop in for Brunch and happy Hour or reserve your table for a delicious dinner. A charming fireside restaurant with an outstanding menu from executive Chef, Andrew Martin. I recommend the French Onion Soup and Truffle Fries!
Mijitas – Make your reservation early for this OUTSTANDING Mexican Restaurant. Walking through the doors, you feel like you have stepped into a cozy European pub. Rich wood, warm lighting, and friendly staff welcome you in during the Fall/Winter season and a fun outdoor dining experience during the summer. The original Margherita is delicious, and the Crab Enchiladas are DIVINE!
Coffee Bar @ Darvill’s Bookstore – Dubbed the “The Littlest Coffee Bar on the island with the Best Brew and a Killer View” and a local favorite, I dare you to try to just visit once! The Chipotle Mocha is outstanding!
The White Horse Pub – This Irish/English pub serves up some delicious food. Local seafood, a full bar, and a friendly waitstaff. This might be the place I have had the BEST Crab Melt!!
Where to shop
We visited during the early part of the week, so keep in mind that a lot of businesses are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which is why we did not do much shopping. Honestly, the three stores below were all I needed!
Darvill’s Bookstore – This is a treasure of the Island. Owned by the same woman for over 40 years, if you love the movie, You’ve Got Mail, you will instantly feel the connection to the “shop around the corner”. Grab a coffee and stroll through the store reading staff picks, fun gifts, and one of the BEST unique magazine selections ever!
Templin’s – My husband remembered shopping at this charming pharmacy over 30 years ago. You will find everything from holiday decor and ornaments to unique toys and gifts..not to mention an operating pharmacy. This is a store that you could spend hours just browsing!
Island Market – If ever there was a quaint grocery, this is it! You will be able to stock your fridge, and grab a coffee or a sandwich at the deli!
